CAMP PROGRAM INFO: OUR PHILOSOPHY

Camp SAY was established with one goal in mind – to provide children who stutter with a highly immersive and accepting summer camp experience that builds self-confidence and helps children develop the vital communication skills they need to fully express themselves without fear, bullying or ridicule.

Complementing our wide range of exciting traditional camp activities, Camp SAY provides each child with unique experiences that challenge them in a safe way, creating a strong sense of achievement and helping them confidently navigate the unique issues that children who stutter face in the everyday world.

STAFF
The staff is dedicated to creating a safe and accepting environment where every child can find their beautiful and unique voice. Approximately 80% of children return to camp. Parents and campers tell us it’s our staff and unique approach that consistently exceed expectations, making Camp SAY such a rewarding and transformative experience.

We provide an excellent Staff-to-Camper Ratio: With Camp’s leadership team, camp counselors, specialized activities staff and more, our staff-to-camper ratio is 1 staff member for every 2-3 campers. In addition, each bunk is staffed at night with at least 2 counselors for an average of 6-10 campers.

Counselors complete a comprehensive training program to support the social, emotional and physical needs of all our campers. Staff development includes leadership training and extensive information about stuttering, camper health and safety, camp philosophy, policies and procedures and much more. Additionally, Specialized Activities Staff is carefully selected based on their skills and expertise.

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Tuition and travel are offered on a sliding scale basis so all children can attend Camp SAY. To date, no child has been turned away from Camp SAY due to a family's inability to pay.

FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): Camp offers Family Day where families visit campers, and in addition to welcoming kids & teens who stutter, we also welcome siblings and friends (ages 8-18).

OTHER CAMP INFO: Meals: Camp SAY provides a wonderfully balanced meal plan with great options that kids will enjoy. In addition to the delicious main meals, we provide tasty snacks at key times during the day. We can accommodate a broad range of food restrictions to ensure that your child’s experience at Camp SAY is truly memorable.

Talented Nursing Team: Your child’s safety and well being is our highest priority. Our camp is staffed by a full-time, on-site registered nurse who can properly dispense any family-provided medications and can access medical specialists as needed.

Traveling to Camp SAY: Campers come from all around the country and abroad. We work closely with families to make each child’s trip to Camp SAY as safe and enjoyable as possible. We schedule a chaperoned flight from the southeast to New York City. Children taking individual flights are welcomed at the gate by camp staff. Upon arrival at the airport, camp staff helps navigate baggage claim, arrange check-in for return flights, and board campers on the bus for a fun trip to Camp SAY.

Our Personalized Approach: In order to fully personalize your child’s camp experience, our team obtains detailed preferences in advance of camp from you and your child – from their activities to seemingly small yet important details. For example, children who have birthdays at Camp SAY are celebrated with a group birthday song and birthday cake.

WACKY WEDNESDAYS Pre-K – 3rd grade
Our Explorer’s Camp goes a little crazy on Wednesday afternoons! Each week offers something different and amazing to our campers – they may compete in a scavenger hunt one week and attend a magic show the next.

TURBO TUESDAY AND THURSDAY 4th – 8th grade
HCA’s Adventurers’ Camp kicks into high gear on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons! Each week a special project will expose our campers to a new skill and expand their horizons. One week they might be cooking for the homeless, the next week they might be learning Carpentry 101! No matter what, our goal is to make sure that they have fun.

NURSERY 2 and 3 PROGRAM:
HCA’s Nursery 2 and Nursery 3 staff enjoys working with young children and the plans for HCA’s Summer Nursery Camp 2014 program include crafts, swimming, art, songs, stories, play, gym, science, cooking, and much more.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have an indoor camp. We use our theater for many activities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We have staff that are excellent in their areas of the arts. Theater teacher offers experiences in many areas of the stage. The music teacher shares many opportunities with the campers to play nstruments, and building instruments, also includes singing.

In the Art area the teacher offers many different ways for painting working with clay, building sets for a stage and much more?

CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At the YMCA, we do not turn anyone away due to an inability to pay. The Y is a non-profit charitable organization that strengthens the foundations of our community. Thanks to donations to the Y's Annual Campaign, we can offer financial assistance to those unable to pay the standard fees.*

Anyone is invited to apply for an income-based YMCA membership or financial assistance. Those receiving income-based memberships are also eligible to receive discounted rates for programming, including camp!

OTHER CAMP INFO: Camp Lenni Lenape, located in Kennett Square at the Kennett Area YMCA provides campers from ages 18 months through 8th grade with a summer they'll never forget. Campers have an opportunity to make friends and participate in a variety of camp activities including: arts & crafts, sports, free swim, field games, community service and weekly themed activities.

Camp CLenni Lenape runs for 11 weeks from June 13 through August 26 and registration for camp is done by the week to allow families flexibility to select camp weeks that work for them. Camp Lenni Lenape also offers aquatics and junior lifeguarding specialty camps. Camp runs from 9 AM - 4 PM each day, aftercare is included in the price of camp. SUMMER CAMP JOBS:

CAMP FACILITIES: Your students will be safely housed in a dorm room at Millersville University and will have all of the same amenities as they would in a hotel. Each dorm room will include a private sink, shower and bathroom. Three meals a day are included with the tuition, and there is a full use kitchenette in the dorms with a microwave, stove and refrigerator. For an additional boarding fee, parents are welcomed to stay in an adjoining dorm room and will also receive a meal plan. At the end of week one, a special picnic will occur between the students, faculty and any family members. For a small additional fee a trip to Hershey Park will also be planned if enough members attend. All of the dancers will featured in a final performance on Friday July 21, 2017.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Viktor Yeliohin (Director) is a former soloist with the Donetsk Ballet of Ukraine. He is a Ballet master, Professor of Choreography and Studio Director with a career spanning more than 20 years.

Vadim Pisarev, trained at the Kiev Chorographical School and was given the honor and highest title of "People's Artist of the Ukraine." He is one of many well trained dancers that will be teaching throughout the summer program.

Inna Dorofeyeva, a native of the Chuguyev in Ukraine, Ms. Dorofeyeva studied at the Kiev Choreographic School under the tutelage of Varvar P. Mey. Formally a Principal Dancer of the Deutsche Oper Am Rhein in Donetsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, she quickly gained international attention.

Cody Smith, has been dancing professionally for 16 years. In New York, he has been a member of the ensemble of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular for the past 11 years. He has also assisted in numerous Broadway workshops and many regional and touring companies.

CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Sequoia is very fortunate to call The Perkiomen School campus our summer home. Pennsburg is a suburban area approximately a one hour drive northwest of Philadelphia in Montgomery County. The proximity of many educational and recreational activities to Pennsburg make our weekly out of camp trips very convenient.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Perkiomen School offers a wide array of playing fields and outdoor athletic facilities such as tennis and basketball courts. An indoor, competition size swimming pool, multiple gyms and top notch art facilities are just a few of the indoor highlights. When it's time for bed, campers will enjoy the comfort of their bedrooms which feature closets, dressers and desks. Bad weather is no problem at Camp Sequoia thanks to our amazing facilities. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: The LIT program meets the need for young people ages 16-17 who are not yet ready for a summer job and need help developing their social thinking skills, independent skills and job readiness skills. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Natalie James is a recent B.S.E. Music Education graduate of Millersville Univeristy. She has been dancing for over 19 years throughout the East Coast training with professional instructors from the STEPS on Broadway, Viktor Yeliohin International Ballet Academy, Broadway Dance Center, Lititz Academy of Dance, and VanDyke & Company. She has had the privilege to work and perform with companies such as Piercing Word, PRiMA Theatre, the Ballet Theater of Lancaster, and Cojomotion.

Natalie has been a featured dancer in local productions of Godspell, Aida, the Nutcracker, Pippin, Carousel, High Cotton, Thoroughly Modern Millie, A Season for Wishes, Cats, A Christmas Carol, The Secret Garden, Once Upon This Island, The Wizard of Oz, The Red Poppy, and Sleeping Beauty. Natalie has choreographed in the Lancaster area for VYIBA, the America-Ukraine Summer Ballet Camp, and Millersville University’s All Campus Music Organization. Natalie is thrilled to work with students in the Lancaster area and is excited to pursue her passion of the arts by helping others to grow as dancers and performers.

CAMP FACILITIES: We have two spacious studios, two large dressing area, two bathrooms, a large lobby. The floors are marley over wood - very good floors.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: SUMMER BALLET INTENSIVE: Intermediate and advanced ballet students hone their skills in ballet, pointe, partnering, jazz, modern, character dance, historical dance and yoga. Principal Dancer, Irina Komarenko, from the Donetsk Ballet will make the long journey from Ukraine to teach this three week program. WDA ballet mistress and former principal dancer from the Kyrgyz Opera and Ballet in Krygystan, Elena Tiuriakulova, has been on staff at WDA since 2003 and will also be teaching during the program.

Additional faculty include Yosbel Delgado, formerly of the Pennsylvania Ballet, Donald Lunsford, Artistic Director of Philadanco II, Svetlana Lutz, former principal dancer of Stavropol Cossack’s Dance Troupe, and Meghan Dwyer, yoga instructor of Blue Banyon Yoga. The Intensive is intended for serious students who want to improve their technique. Dancers should be between the ages of 10-22 and have at least two years of experience. A studio performance will be held at the end of the intensive and will be followed by a reception.

We have a ceramics and pottery program, arts and craft building, theater stage,pool, climbing rock wall and zip line, low ropes course, archery field and numerous sports fields. Conshatawba has beautiful lodges, platform tents, and cabins for lodging.Girls attend themed weeks of camp throughout the summer with this year's most popular sessions being a Percy Jackson session and a Hunger Games themed session. Conshatawba offers resident camping for girls ages 8-17 as well as family sessions.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Camp Conshatawba has adventure programming specializing in backpacking trips. Conshatawba offers a 4 sided climbing tower and zipline. Conshatawba also focuses on the arts with an indoor theater and arts studio.

Our camps are staffed with activity specialists, a cook, a health supervisor and specialty staff for adventure programs. Staff members are carefully selected for their skills as well as how they work with children and adults. They participate in weeklong training sessions where they earn appropriate certifications. CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: CIT Program: A CIT candidate must submit an application with two personal references and a medical reference. Space is limited for this position.

The role of a CIT is to assist counselors while working with younger campers. The CIT Program provides training for youth interested in working with kids, specifically as camp counselors. Participants are expected to interact thoughtfully and compassionately with younger campers; to commit to learning more about themselves, camp, and camp procedures; to be team members and to take on responsibility and leadership. CITs also have the opportunity to learn a basic understanding of diabetes and its care.

The primary goal of the CIT Program is to offer a fun and supportive experience that will develop confidence, commitment, and community. The program focuses on helping youth become future leaders by developing communication, teamwork and leadership skills. CITs will leave ready to become camp counselors.

CAMP FACILITIES: Swope Music Building houses state-of-the-art rehearsal and performance spaces, classrooms, practice rooms, and faculty studios. Students are housed in an on-campus residence hall, adjacent to the dining hall.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The West Chester University High School Summer Music Institute offers resident and commuter options for students currently in grades 9 through 12. Students have the opportunity to perform in a variety of large and small ensembles including wind ensemble, string orchestra, choir, flute ensemble, clarinet ensemble, saxophone ensemble, double reed ensemble, brass ensemble, percussion ensemble, and vocal ensemble. All ensembles perform at the end of the Institute, and all concerts are open to family and friends. Auditions for a solo recital are held at the beginning of the week.

The Institute’s faculty consists primarily of West Chester University professors, all of whom are active performing artists in the Philadelphia region. Each student receives two 30-minute private lessons and one studio masterclass on their primary instrument or voice. Students will also participate in music theory/ear training, college prep, and audition prep classes.

Recreational activities include volleyball, a pizza party, and other organized evening activities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Summer Theatre Camp is the hallmark of Yes! And… Collaborative Arts Imagination Programming. We have been running these camps for over 15 years!

Yes! And… Collaborative Arts offers exciting, creative and transformative summer experiences for young people grades K-12. No previous theatre experience? No problem! Does your child not like to be in front of a group? No problem! Our programs dig into each child's imagination and awaken a sense of play and wonder. We explore dance, acting, music, visual arts and more in order to teach collaboration, working as a group, and building on each other's strengths.

Every camp culminates in an original performance. We can't tell you what they are, because your child is part of the writing and creating process! We can tell you that these showcases are exciting, celebratory, and always an adventure. Our Imagination Camps usually showcase on Friday at 3:30pm, after their day is done. Two aspects of our program that specifically are designed for intentional communication, empowered decision making, and relationship building include Crew and Group. Crew is the daily "chores" group that every camper participates in. This is anything from cooking breakfast, to cleaning the stalls and feeding the horses, to taking out the trash and recycling around camp. We do hard work, and then we get to play! Group is our evening program that is defined as "the part of Longacre that makes us unique". This is an intentionally facilitated communication workshop for all of our campers and staff. This is where we use communication tools and skills to better understand ourselves, others, and how we interact with the world.

A CIT day encompasses work experience, bunk activities including lunch and swimming, as well as sport and recreational periods. Building on that success, Lake Owego for boys was opened in 1961, and our sister camp for girls, Camp Timber Tops, was opened in 1963.

Today, the third-generation and 4th generation leadership of Mickey and Barbara Black, and their children, Lee and Anna, carry on the family legacy, earning awards such as "Family Business of the Year" and serving as active leaders in the American Camping Association of America.

Directors John and Rachel Waszczak, Kyle Silver, Jeff Freedman and Shelly Silver have over 90 years of combined camp experience, and they work together a fantastic camp experience for each and every Lake Owego camper.

The Costa Rica trip is included in the camp tuition, and the campers will get to explorer and see the sites, go on a canopy zip-line tour, and hike around a volcano, as well as train for and put on a 1 week camp for underserved local children. FAMILY CAMP SESSION(S): If you're interested in camp for next year, try one of our Explorer Weekends! We offer overnight opportunities during the summer so that interested campers can spend the night in the bunk and experience camp before going away.

We also offer 4-10 day specialty camps during the summer; TOP Basketball, TOP Adventure, TOP Cooks, and TOP Riding (English style Horseback Riding).

Before and after our traditional summer camp dates, camp is available for retreats, rental groups, weddings, and other events.

CAMP FACILITIES: Our brand new space is equipped with four studios with sprung floors, restrooms with changing areas, and showers, and a lobby for each dance area.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The summer programs are a great way for students to maintain their technique, train with experienced professionals and have a lot of fun!

Our goal at Koresh is to create strong, versatile dancers who understand the value of training in various techniques. We aim to provide students with a fulfilling experience whether they want to become professional dancers or they simply enjoy dance. The school's exceptional instructors are able to create a professional and caring environment with an emphasis on technique, artistry, discipline, teamwork and persistence.

YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS: Koresh School of Dance offers classes in all genres to students ages 2 to 18.

OTHER CAMP INFO: This workshop will be taught by Koresh instructor, Samuel Reyes. Samuel Antonio Reyes (Sammy) has been a Philadelphia artist for over 10 years. He graduated from The University of the Arts in 2001 with a BFA in Performing Arts. While studying there, he was the recipient of the Cushman Acting Award and the Theater Ensemble Award. After graduation, he continued his studies under Roni Koresh and Rennie Harris and danced with many Philadelphia artists such as Charles O. Anderson of dance theatre x, Kate Watson-Wallace and Montazh Performing Arts Company.

Sammy has worked with many theater and dance companies over the years including Luna Theater, Cat Scratch Theater, Le Cabaret Melange, Zen One Dance Collective, Media Theater and Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth, NH. He was nominated for a Barrymore Award for Best Choreography in 2002 for Pal Joey at the Prince Music Theatre and again in 2007 for The Bomb-itty of Errors with the 11th Hour Theater Company.

He was an artist-in-residence at Muhlenberg College from 2006-08, has worked with the Drexel University dance team and choreographed the musical Urinetown for LaSalle University. Sammy also choreographed for the Garden State Dance Festival from 2003-08 and has been a choreographer for Walnut Street Theatre's Education Department since 2005. He is currently an adjunct professor at Temple University and has been the artistic director of his own production team, SANBROOKA Productions, since 2002.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The Broadway Dreams Foundation is a week-long day intensive where our students work with a faculty of Broadways finest. During the course of the week,the students will be trained in classes and have rehearsals with the staff in order to prepare for the showcase that is presented at the end of the week to family friends,and industry agents!

On the last day of the intensive,students will audition for Telsey and Co as well as other Casting Agency's. More than 3,000 students have participated in Broadway Dreams programs.

Past students have gone on to perform with Broadway, national touring and regional productions including Bring It On: The Musical (Ryann Redmond, Calli Alden), Bare (Ariana Groover), Memphis (Lindsay Roberts), The Book of Mormon (Paris Nesbitt), Shrek (Chase Todd), Evita (Katie Huff), The Addams Family (Ethan Wexler), A Chorus Line (Sidney DuPont) and Spring Awakening (Blake Daniel).

CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Harmony features 8 newly remodeled cabins, 5 rustic cabins, RV campground, teepees, swimming pool & waterslide, climbing & rappelling tower, high & low elements ropes course, pavilions, catch & release pond, indoor gym & multipurpose building, dining hall, meeting rooms, and retreat buildings for large and small groups of all types. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Since 1924, Camp Harmony has offered programs that train Christians in the way they should go. Our mission is to invite all people to experience the wonder of creation and to grow in closer harmony with God, with nature, and with one another. We aim to do so through offering programs for all ages to participate in fun learning experiences in a variety of formats and by providing space where individuals and groups can connect in a greater way.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Camp Harmony offers a Leaders-in-Training program for youth ages 16 & older who have completed at least 10th grade. Leaders-in-Training participate in activities during the week of staff training and then choose 2 weeks out of the summer to volunteer with our staff in various capacities.
